The Impact and Reflection on Different Learning Theories

Learning theories are some of the very best ways that learning designers can help students stay engaged. However, depending on the exact learning theory that you decide to use, this can impact the way you go about setting up lessons for students. Today I am reflecting on the different learning theories that I was able to determine by going through each of my design projects and going over the learning theory and what worked well and what didn't for each project. Module 1: Gamification For my first assignment, I got to explore gamification. "Gamification is the incorporation of elements of game design in a classroom setting" (Erikson, 2020). Gamification is a fun way to use games to motivate students by using games, storytelling, freedom to fail and choose, rapid feedback, and progression to keep students engaged.    I incorporated elements of storytelling to take the employees at SparkyWave Solutions on a journey to Camp SparkyWave. Employees selected a learning path a...

Instructional Design Project Reflection

During my LDT 502 course, my team and I spent several weeks creating our first course. My team and I worked together to be able to design a course that helped school faculty learn how to use DaVinci Resolve 18 so that the faculty could increase their online presence with their students.  The design process took several weeks to fully complete, and we definitely experienced our fair share of roadblocks. However, I am ultimately happy with the end result of the course. Today I want to reflect on my experience designing the course and discuss the good and bad aspects of the project. The Challenge:   University School faculty were having trouble getting their online students to stay engaged and really grasp the course concepts in their classes online. The challenge was that we needed to train the school staff to use a program called DaVinci Resolve, which would help them be able to post videos into their Canvas courses so that they could increase their online presence and make ...

Evaluator Self-Assessment and Reflection

Reflecting on my time in LDT 506, I have seen many opportunities where I have been able to improve as a learning designer. I feel as though my time examining different evaluation practices has been meaningful, and I feel like I now have a new perspective on how to conduct proper evaluations, which I hope to be able to use in my future career. Overall, I am happy with the knowledge that I have gained through this course and can't wait to apply my knowledge of evaluations more often in the future. Most recently, I have taken a self-assessment about where I personally stand as an evaluator. The self-assessment made me think about where I am currently at with being able to conduct proper and meaningful evaluations. It was found that after some reflection, I would be at an advanced or expert level in most areas of the evaluation process. On my self-assessment, I gave myself mostly scores between 4-6, with most scores being 5 or 6, which would indicate me to be at an advanced or expert l...

Evaluator Competencies Reflection

Reflecting on my past experiences as an evaluator and learning more about the competencies of the evaluator, I have realized I have a lot of experience with evaluation. I also have many areas where I would like to spend time researching and growing from those experiences so that I can become a more data-driven and culturally responsive evaluator in the future. I have also realized several strengths through my reflection that allow me to be a strong evaluator in certain areas. Recently, I have taken an evaluator self-assessment, and today I want to reflect on those findings. Self-Assessment Results: The evaluator self-assessment results were rated on a scale of 1–6, with 6 representing the expert evaluator. I would rate myself at a solid 5 with my evaluation techniques. I have a lot of experience with evaluation and have also been in several positions where I was evaluated on things. I understand how to analyze data from an unbounded perspective and follow specific guidelines. However, ...

My Goals As A Learning Designer

As I start my second session of courses in the Learning Design and Technology program, I have been reflecting on my journey thus far. I have been thinking about my reasons behind completing this program, my motivations, and what I hope to gain from this experience. After thinking about my reasons for becoming a learning designer, it was driven by my passion for education, my experience with technology being impactful for my previous students, and my own experiences as a learner. As I go forward in this program, I have created three goals that are comprised of short-, medium-, and long-term goals and aspirations so that I can grow personally in the program. Short-Term Goal: Digital Media Skills Over the past few months, I have been doing a lot of research in my free time about the kinds of digital media that learning designers are expected to understand to make content that is helpful to learners. I have noticed that a lot of jobs require learning designers to be experienced in things l...

The Importance of Learning Design and Technology

Learning Design: Learning design is the intentional process of planning, developing, and implementing instructional experiences to achieve specific educational goals and experiences for the needs of the learner. It involves the thoughtful consideration of pedagogical principles, content selection, instructional methods, and assessment strategies to meet the needs of the learner so that they can have the best learning experience that is tailored to their needs. Role of Technology: Technology plays a central role in learning design by serving as a strategy for innovation and enhancement in educational practices. It enables the creation of dynamic and interactive learning environments in unique ways, facilitates access to a vast array of information and resources, supports collaboration and communication, and allows for personalized and adaptive learning experiences no matter what the needs are for the school or business so that each learner gets the support that they individually need....
